Pre-Conference Professional Development Session and Tour
at the William Paterson University Child Development Center

 

 

 

Explore the classrooms, materials, philosophies and ideas that help shape the environment, which in turn impacts the practice and performance of both the students and staff at William Paterson University’s Child Developme

nt Center. Discuss and explore how the CCAMPIS Grant is used to both serve the community and build enrollment. We will also discuss strategies for maintaining equity and equilibrium in program quality for a student population that spans a wide economic spectrum. Photos will be permitted as long as children are not photographed.

7:30am Boarding the Bus

8:00am - 10:00am Bus Ride from Philadelphia Marriott Old City, PA to Wayne, NJ

10:00am - 10:45am Meet and Greet

The group will gather for an overview of the program, focusing on the connections between curriculum, pedagogy, and the environment. Cindy Genneralli, the Director of the WP Child Development Center, will lead this discussion. Additionally, there will be a conversation about the role of the CCAMPIS grant and its connections to the broader campus and community.
 

10:45am - 11:45am Individual Classroom Tours

The center houses six classrooms, ages 2.6 years old to kindergarten. Participants will have the opportunity to tour each of the 6 classrooms, and have in-depth discussions with the teaching staff, and in some cases, the children.
 

11:45am – 12:15pm Children’s Outdoor Classroom Tour

Dress for the occasion… We will visit and hike along the entrance of the children’s hiking trail. Read about our natural resources here.

12:15pm - 1:15pm Informal Lunch, Networking and Breakout Sessions

WP CDC facilitators will conduct breakout sessions for participants, focusing on specific topics and decisions related to our classroom environments, outdoor experiences, curriculum, and documentation. We are also pleased to have Laura Wilhelm join us for one of the breakout sessions.

Participants attending the Pre-Conference day workshop will receive a gift bag filled with a Gryphon House resource publication and learning materials

Continuing the Conversation at the N4C conference

Several William Paterson University Child Development Center staff members will be attending the conference. They will be available to continue the conversation and answer questions around the Pre-Conference day program. Visit them in between workshops at the Makerspace room at N4C in Philadelphia.
